Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe is still holding out hope that the club can bring in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi before the transfer window closes.
The Magpies have less than a day to finalise their dealings for the summer, with the England international still at the top of their list.
But reports suggest that the Eagles are holding out for £75million, a figure Newcastle may not be willing to match.
However, Howe, who has personally asked for Guehi, has not given up just yet.
Speaking to the media ahead of his side’s match against Tottenham this weekend, he said: “There is still work going on to try and see what we can do in the last few hours of the window. So while here is time, there is hope.
“We won’t be closed right until the end in both ways [in or out], maybe one or two of the younger players going on out.

“We are looking for loans for two or three of those so let’s see what happens in the last few hours.”
“The PSR situation, available funds, attracting the right players and the players that can make a difference, that is such a delicate spot for us.
“We have got to try and hit it right and if we don’t then probably doing nothing, as frustrating as that is, is probably the best option.
“I think there would be a feeling that we have a good squad and we like all of the players we have in our squad, but there is a feeling of course that there are a few areas of the squad that we felt we needed to strengthen.
“I think we will carry those emotions, depending on what happens, into the last few hours [of the transfer window.”
