It looks like Ryan Fraser is finally about to leave Newcastle United for good.
Sky Sports‘ Mark McAdam and Keith Downie report that the Saints are ‘close’ to agreeing a deal for the winger, who looks set to become a free agent after discussions to terminate his contract on Tyneside.
McAdam claims that Fraser has ‘agreed a deal in principle’ to leave Newcastle, with some ‘final details’ still to be sorted before he can complete a return to St Mary’s after spending last season on loan with the newly-promoted side.
With less than 12 months remaining on his current deal and the 30-year-old on decent wages, I’d imagine we are paying off the remainder of his contract and agreeing on a final settlement before he joins Southampton on a free.
Speaking on X just moments ago, McAdam said: ‘Southampton are getting closer to agreeing a deal with winger Ryan Fraser after he agreed a deal in principle to leave Newcastle. There are still some final details for Fraser to iron out with NUFC but he could become Southampton’s second Deadline Day signing.’
