Paul Mitchell has issued a positive update on Joe Willock’s injury status, revealing that the midfielder will be back “very soon.”
Eddie Howe said last Friday that the early signs suggested he hadn’t suffered a “serious injury” after his first scan showed some damage to his thigh, but was reluctant to say too much until the results came back from further assessment.
A week later, following his chat with the local media at St James’ Park on Wednesday, our sporting director said “he’ll back very soon” when asked for an update on the 25-year-old’s fitness, suggesting the latest scan cam back positive.
“Joe Willock – I know he got injured against Forest, but we all saw what he can bring to this team,” Mitchell told the Shields Gazette. “He’ll be back very soon.”
It remains to be seen exactly when he’ll return, but this offers genuine hope that he’ll be back shortly after the international break.
We face Wolves a week on Sunday – a game that may come too soon for Willock – before travelling to Fulham on Saturday 21st September, with our Carabao Cup trip to Wimbledon coming next on Tuesday 24th September.
