Arteta sticking to his guns for another three years

September 12 – Mikel Arteta had renewed his contract at Arsenal, keeping him at the London club until at least 2027.

With his contract running out at the end of the season, the Arsenal boss has secured his long-term future in North London with a three-year extension. The news comes ahead of the derby against Tottenham this weekend.

In 2019, the Spaniard succeeded Unai Emery, first as head coach and then as manager. A former assistant of Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Arteta has been instrumental in a turnaround at the London club after enduring a difficult start to life at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal won the FA Cup in 2020 and last year returned to the Champions League after a seven-year hiatus. In the Premier League, Arsenal challenged City twice for the league title, but finished runners-up twice. Arteta has filled the void that French manager Arsene Wenger left following the end of his 22-year reign at the club.

They opened the 2024-25 campaign with seven points from nine and will take on Tottenham and Man City in their next two top-flight fixtures. This summer the club added European champion Mikel Merino, Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori and Raheem Sterling to their squad as they seek to compete yet again for the Premier League crown.
