After recent questions around Garang Kuol’s failure to land a loan move this summer, we now know why.
It seems his bad run of luck has continued, as it’s emerged that the Australian international suffered a quad injury which scuppered his chances of finding a temporary move over the final month of the transfer window.
According to The Athletic’s Jacob Whitehead, Kuol has a grade three tear in his right quad in training, which is expected to rule him out for around eight weeks.
It’s not the latest injury to plague the youngster recently either, as a short-term injury forced Kuol to miss Newcastle’s tour of Japan back in July just as he was looking to impress Eddie Howe.
The 19-year-old may still leave Newcastle on loan in the January window, with prior interest from clubs in England, Belgium and Portugal presenting a number of options for Kuol after failed loan spells at Hearts and Volendam.
Despite featuring for the Magpies in the post-season tour in Australia this year, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that Kuol will factor into Eddie Howe’s first team plans this season, with youngsters like Trevan Sanusi looking to be above him in terms of the player hierarchy.
