According to talkSPORT, forgotten Mag Isaac Hayden was one of the British-born players that Jamaica boss Steve McClaren wanted to take a look at ahead of the 2026 World Cup – but a lack of game time could scupper his call-up hopes.
Chief reporter Alex Crook reveals that Hayden’s failure to land a summer loan move could prove costly, as he won’t play until January after being left out of Eddie Howe’s 25-man squad.
Hayden, whose contract runs until 2026, has spent time out on loan at Norwich, QPR and Belgian side Standard Liege, so there was an expectation that he would again go out on loan this summer after missing all of our pre-season friendlies.
No loan move ever materialised meaning Hayden will play no first-team football for the remainder of the year, meaning former Toon boss McClaren could opt against handing the 29-year-old a call-up for their qualification campaign.
Hayden has been at Newcastle since 2016 and the midfielder not only played a huge rule in winning promotion from the Championship but also in keeping us in the Premier League under Rafa Benitez.
The former Arsenal man has made over 170 appearances for the Magpies, however, he has not pulled on the shirt since December 2021 having been left out in the cold by Eddie Howe.
