According to Craig Hope at The Mail, Newcastle have been tracking Norwegian sensation Sindre Walle Egeli as we step up our global search for the next big thing.
Egeli currently plays his football in Denmark for FC Nordsjælland and in the most recent international break made his debut for the Norwegian first-team, coming on as a substitute against Kazakhstan.
It’s believed Newcastle are keen to sign more young gems – much like Yankuba Minteh, who signed for £6m from the Danish league last summer. However, The Mail report that Egeli is set to cost considerably more than Minteh did over 12 months ago, with Nordsjælland expected to demand around £21m.
There’s a lot of noise being made about the 18-year-old, who actually has a better goal scoring record at youth level than Erling Haaland – who he has previously been compared to – netting 32 times in 35 games for Norway’s youth teams.
Like Haaland, Egeli is also left-footed, physically imposing and has a knack for scoring goals, though he can be more versatile than the Man City star as he can play anywhere across the front line, particularly on the right wing. Watch him in action below:
