£20m man ‘open’ to Newcastle exit as two clubs plan January move – Report

Callum Wilson is reportedly attracting interest from a pair of Premier League clubs, with the England international looking to “revive” his career another run of injury setbacks.

Wilson, who has yet to appear for Newcastle United this season after a procedure on his back, is being monitored by both Brentford and Fulham ahead of the January transfer window.

As reported by The Sun, the 32-year-old is believed to be open to a move away from St James’ Park in the future, which is no surprise with his contract expiring next summer.

With Alexander Isak firmly in place as club’s clear go-to striker and Will Osula tipped for big things after his £15m move from Sheffield United in the summer, Wilson’s days of regular starts may have come to an end, whilst an opportunity elsewhere in the Premier League could afford him that chance to lead the line regularly once again.

Brentford notably sold talisman Ivan Toney to Al Ahli in August and Fulham are yet to properly replace Aleksandr Mitrovic since his own departure to Saudi Arabia. Wilson’s Premier League proven experience and keen eye for goal would be a welcome addition to both Thomas Frank and Marco Silva’s squads – if he can stay fit, that is.

The Sun also speculate that Newcastle have already looked into how they would spend the funds gained from Wilson’s departure, with the money being able to use in January to resume pursuits for the likes of Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

Following his £20m move from Bournemouth back in 2020, Wilson has scored 48 goals and recorded 11 assists across all competitions. His current contract is set to expire on June 30th, 2025 at the culmination of this current season.
