According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s season-ending injury could provide Barcelona with a valuable opportunity.
Not only would it allow the club to sign Wojciech Szczesny, but it would also open the door to registering Dani Olmo beyond the current December 31.
It is said that Barcelona are currently awaiting an agreement with Nike, which is expected to resolve their ongoing issues with financial fair play. However, the club is also exploring other options to secure Olmo’s registration for the upcoming winter transfer window.
Barcelona have tried several options
It must be noted that it took a considerable amount of time for Barcelona to sort out Olmo’s registration. This was made possible due to the absence of Andreas Christensen, who was sidelined with an injury that could have kept him out for up to four months.
Using 80% of Christensen’s salary, Barcelona were able to allocate the necessary funds to register Olmo, but this arrangement is only valid until December 31.

Now, with Ter Stegen out for the season, Barcelona would be able to apply a similar strategy, using 80% of the German goalkeeper’s salary to keep Olmo registered for the entire season.
This would prevent the club from relying solely on the upcoming agreement with Nike to ensure Olmo’s long-term stay.
Signing Szczesny won’t be a problem
Moreover, club sources indicate that Ter Stegen’s exit could also pave the way for Barcelona to sign Szczesny. The 34-year-old Polish goalkeeper, however, would need to accept a lower salary to fit within the club’s financial fair play limits.
His potential signing was discussed during the recent Board meeting, and it appears the decision will ultimately rest with Deco and Hansi Flick.
