Eddie Howe press conference – A great watch after a big point vs Man City

Eddie Howe has reacted to Newcastle’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City, hailing our best performance of the season so far and sharing an update on the absent Alexander Isak.

After a miserable performance at Fulham last weekend, Newcastle were back at it on Saturday afternoon, playing the intense high pressing style of play which earned us a spot in the top four just over a year ago.

With Isak missing out, Gordon filled in as centre-forward and, as Howe mentioned, played with that ‘spirit and aggression’ that was key to pressing City’s defenders and winning the ball high up the pitch.

On the Swedish striker, Howe added that he will miss Tuesday’s cup against Wimbledon, but that it is ‘not a serious injury’ and they will ‘make assessments’ on him during the week ahead of our trip to Everton.

Watch everything Howe said to the press below, with talkSPORT capturing his comments on the result, performance, Gordon, Guardiola and a couple of fitness concerns:

Speaking about Saturday’s performance, Howe said: “We’re happy with a point. You always want to win every game but you have to respect where we were in that point of the game, we were hanging on, but overall a great performance.

“It’s difficult to press them but we had some really good success in both halves. We played our way which was the most important thing and individually we were much better today.

“We committed. We were brave. Anthony Gordon epitomised that spirit, that aggression. He proved he’s getting back to his very best. Everyone to a man put in a really good shift today.”

On Isak, Howe added: “He definitely won’t feature on Tuesday. Let’s see how he looks for Everton. Obviously there’s an international break after that and there will be implications for that, so we’ll make assessments during the week. It’s not a serious injury but it is a niggly one which is affecting him.”
