Opta release predicted Premier League table – Interesting results for Newcastle United

After a steady start to the new Premier League campaign, Newcastle United have been predicted to finish 6th in this season’s table.

With three wins, two draws and one loss from their opening six games, Opta has predicted that Newcastle will continue to remain in contention for European football as the season goes on, backing us to finish above the likes of Manchester United and Spurs.

The Magpies currently sit in 7th position on 11 points, and Opta believes Unai Emery’s Aston Villa will pip Eddie Howe’s to 5th – the one guaranteed Europa League slot – come the end of the campaign, with Chelsea backed to finish 4th after back-to-back wins over West Ham and Brighton.

In regards to the rest of the league, Opta believes Manchester City will once again top the table and secure a record-extending fifth Premier League title in a row, with Everton and Wolves to narrowly survive relegation at the expense of Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton. See their table in full below:

Last season, Opta did their pre-season data prediction for Newcastle, fresh off Champions League qualification and their best season in over a decade, and had them in 5th place, but would obviously go on to finish 7th.

Though we can all hope Newcastle avoid another season-derailing set of injuries and bad luck that blighted the 2023/24 campaign, the Magpies will be hoping to build on Saturday’s improved display ahead of the tricky run ahead. Everton (A), Brighton (H), Chelsea (A), Arsenal (H) and Nottingham Forest (A) make up their next six league fixtures, each of whom will pose an immense challenge.

Do you agree with Opta’s prediction? Where do you think Newcastle will finish after their strong start to the Premier League this season? Let us know now!
