October 11 – Serie A have confirmed that the Supercoppa Italiana will be played for the third consecutive season in Saudi Arabia 2-6 January 2025, the fifth time the Saudis have hosted.
In 2018 when Serie A announced their first deal with the Saudis for hosting, they were met with a barrage of protests, most of it around Saudi Arabia’s human rights record and their failure to allow women into stadia to watch games.
Since then Italian fans have come to accept Saudi Arabia as the venue for the Supercoppa, which like Spain’s LaLiga, has changed its format from being a one-off final to a four team tournament.
The 37th edition of the tournament will take place in Riyadh between the 2023/2024 Serie A Champion Club (F.C. Internazionale), the winner of the 2023/2024 Coppa Italia Frecciarossa (Juventus), the second placed club in the Championship in the 2023/2024 season (A.C. Milan) and the finalist of the last Coppa Italia Frecciarossa (Atalanta).
The first Semifinal will be Inter – Atalanta (2 January 2025), the second Juventus – AC Milan (3 January 2025).
As well as Saudi Arabia, the Supercoppa has previously been played in China, twice in the United States and Qatar, and once in Libya.
