Manchester United to end payments to Sir Alex Ferguson

Sir Alex Ferguson will not be remunerated by Manchester United for the first time in 35 years at the end of the season with the club removing him from the payroll, according to widespread reports this morning.

Ferguson stood down as manager in 2013, after which he has been a global ambassador and club director, roles that earned him a multi-million pound annual payment.

But following talks the BBC claim were amicable with new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe last week, the club will cease the payments next year.

Ferguson, 82, led the club through the most successful period in their history with United winning 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League crowns, five FA Cups and four EFL Cups.

He is still a regular attendee at games home and away.

It has been reported the move to end his annual payment is part of Ratcliffe’s cost-cutting measures at Old Trafford that have already seen over 250 staff members made redundant.
