Barcelona president reveals the actual transfer fee paid for marquee summer signing

Barcelona’s summer transfer window did not quite go to plan as the club failed to hit several objectives they had laid out for themselves.

For starters, top transfer target Nico Williams did not join the club despite strong efforts from the administration.

More importantly, however, the club failed to secure any major departure in a window that was said to hold several big-name exits in store.

Ultimately, the Blaugrana roped in just two players in Dani Olmo and Pau Victor while losing players like Ilkay Gundogan, Marc Guiu and Oriol Romeu among others.

Laporta provides clarity

Delivering the opening speech at the FC Barcelona Ordinary General Assembly, club president Joan Laporta provided some unknown insights about the club’s moves in the recently concluded summer transfer window.

First, he revealed the figure the Catalans shelled out to sign Dani Olmo who has made a strong start to life under Hansi Flick barring his small injury hiccup.

“We have had containment in investments. Our sports director has done very well and the only investments have been Olmo and Pau Víctor.”

“We were talking about €50 million for a significant investment and Olmo cost us €47 million,” he said on the arrivals as relayed on the club’s official social media.

Olmo’s contract, however, includes variables that will be added for titles won and playing 60% of the team’s games.

Concurrently, the president revealed how the team also generated significant revenue through player sales, none of which were made to balance the books.

“They have been sports sales. Not to make a barter that would help us to balance the accounts. There was one who took advantage of a low clause and accepted an offer from another team,” he said, referring to Marc Guiu.
