Motsepe gives Mosengo-Omba vote of confidence as Swiss and FIFA corruption probes continue

October 23 – Confederation of African Football (CAF) boss Patrice Motsepe has defended the organisation’s general secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba, who is under investigation for alleged misconduct.

At a news conference following the confederation’s general assembly in Addis Abbeba, Ethiopia, Motsepe (pictured left) said: “I have total confidence as CAF president in the integrity and ethics of the secretariat led by our general secretary. Whatever allegations and issues may be raised – because we are an organisation that believes in ethics and transparency, we will follow the process.”

“We have a duty (to ensure) that ethics and governance are respected. I am confident that what will come out of those findings will indeed emphasise the integrity of the organisation.”

In the summer, CAF launched an investigation into Mosengo-Omba (pictured right) over allegations of serious misconduct, including “impeding” members of the governance, risk and compliance department from performing their duties.

Mosengo-Omba, once the chief officer of member associations at FIFA, has always maintained his innocence. On X, formerly Twitter, he called the efforts ‘sabotage’. CAF appointed a third party to conduct the investigation.

Mosengo-Omba briefly responded that “nobody is above the law” but that “my administration and I are serene” as they await the investigation.
