Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal made history by winning the prestigious Raymond Kopa Award for the best young player at the Ballon d’Or 2024 ceremony.
At just 17, Yamal became the youngest-ever recipient of this honour. Coming from Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, Yamal’s journey so far has been nothing short of impressive.
His rise has been rapid, culminating in his placement among the top 30 Ballon d’Or nominees, making him the youngest to achieve this distinction.
Yamal’s performance this season has been a key reason for his recognition and this award not only celebrates his achievements but also symbolises the bright future he has ahead in both domestic and international competitions.
“Thank you, Luis de la Fuente, Xavi and Hansi Flick,” he said while receiving the award.

He acknowledged the support from his family, team, and coaches, and paid tribute to those who have stood by him throughout his journey.
“It’s an honour to receive this trophy. Thank you to France Football. I dedicate this award to my mother, my grandmother, the team, the coaches, and my family. It’s for those who supported me. Visça Barça!”
Yamal stated his ambitions plainly: he’s set on winning more La Liga titles, Champions Leagues, and, eventually, the Ballon d’Or itself.
“It is a source of pride to be able to break records, thanks to my teammates, and I am looking forward to more.
“All players want to win the Ballon d’Or… I hope to win a Ballon d’Or as soon as possible. It’s something I have in mind. I’m going all out to get it,” he noted.
This Kopa Trophy places Yamal among Barcelona’s finest young talents….
