Lyon appoint former AC Milan boss Fonseca

Lyon have made former AC Milan supervisor Paulo Fonseca their new head coach only a month after he left the San Siro.

Fonseca, 51, has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Ligue 1 membership and replaces Pierre Sage.

Lyon sacked Sage earlier this week however made it into the final 16 of the Europa League after a 1-1 house draw with Ludogorets of their remaining group-stage match on Thursday.

The membership are sixth within the French top-flight after managing only one win of their final 5 league video games and have been knocked out of the French Cup following a defeat by French fifth-tier membership Bourgoin-Jallieu.

“Olympique Lyonnais could be very happy to announce the appointment of Paulo Fonseca as head coach of the skilled workforce till June 30, 2027,” Lyon stated in a press release.

“This selection, taken unanimously by John Textor and all the sports activities administration, is a part of the need to provide Olympique Lyonnais a powerful ambition, each on the nationwide and European scene.”

Fonseca was sacked by Milan after solely six months within the job. He beforehand managed Lille in Ligue 1, guiding them to fourth place final season.
